The
administrators of the college are guided
by the basic principle, that
no
committed student should miss an
opportunity to receive quality
theological education just because he or
she does not have the resources. They
are also determined to charging the
maximum from those students who have the
resources. The cost of education for
different programs for the next
academic-year is separately provided
with the application material. Since we
show the total and the actual cost of
education, some may think that it is
beyond their reach. We, however,
encourage you to study carefully the
following information, and the
additional information provided.
Please
do not think that it is beyond your
reach. About fifty per cent of our
students are on full financial aid.
Several students benefit from specially
instituted scholarships, many of which
are good enough to cover the total cost,
and provide necessary pocket money and
book grant.
Tuition Grant:
The administrators of the
College are very well aware that most of
the students cannot afford to pay the
full cost. They attempt to raise, as
much as possible, the cost of tuition
from friends and well-wishers of the
College. Consequently, up to 100 percent
tuition fee is waived for everyone who
in the judgement of the Admission
Committee/Financial Aid Committee does
not have the resources to pay any money
towards tuition. If the Admission
Committee/Financial Aid Committee feels
that paying a part of the tuition is
within the means of a few students, then
they will be asked to do so. Unless a
student is ready to pay the full tuition
cost, he or she should apply every year
for financial aid.
The purpose of showing the full cost of
education is neither to make it
burdensome for the students nor to scare
them away. The administration wants them
to be conscious of the cost and value of
education they are receiving. They
expect the students, therefore, to be
thoughtfully responsible and profoundly
grateful before God. The administrators
not only provide the infrastructure for
quality theological education and
ministerial training, but they also
strive to find resources so that as many
deserving candidates as possible may be
trained for the diverse ministries of
the body of Christ.
Living Expense:
All students are
expected to have their own resources for
living expenses (food and
accommodation). What the students pay
for the food is spent just for their
food alone. If students are unable to
find support from their family
resources, their local churches are
strongly urged to help them.
There is no rent for the hostel rooms.
However, students have to pay a certain
amount toward water and electricity
charges and the maintenance of the
college facilities, which is charged as
accommodation fees.
Scholarships:
The administration is
sensitive to the fact that there may be
some students who are desirous of
pursuing the kind of education that the
Luther W. New Jr. Theological College
provides, but are unable to do so
because they cannot find resources for
their living expenses, either from their
own families, churches or organizations.
To help such students, the
administrators attempt to raise
scholarship funds. Consequently, the
College administration encourages all
those who are committed to quality
theological education to apply for
admission, even if they do not have the
resources for their living expenses.
Work Opportunities:
A number of students
may be able to find work opportunities
at different places on college campus.
However, it is to be noted that no
student shall be able to cover the whole
cost of living through work. A student
is permitted to work a maximum of forty
hours per month (ten hours per week).
The prevailing hourly pay is Rs 10/-. It
is the responsibility of the student to
find work at different places on the
College campus. The Admission
Committee/Financial Aid Committee may
recommend the most needy students to
various departments; hence, they shall
receive preference in hiring.
Work is normally available in the
Library, Mess Department and Campus
Maintenance Department. At the end of
every month, each department supervisor
will report to the Business Office as to
how many hours a student has worked, and
he shall be paid accordingly. (Please
note that, generally speaking, no
student shall be assigned to a job and
paid on a monthly basis. The hourly work
counts.) The department supervisors
decide whether to continue or
discontinue the services of a student.
Students, therefore, are encouraged to
keep up quality so that they will have
stable opportunities.
Generally, all the scholarship funds are
distributed at the beginning of the
year; work positions are also filled at
the beginning of the year. While it may
be possible to find few opportunities to
work, it may be very difficult to
receive scholarship. Consequently,
students are advised not to rely on the
College when difficulties arrive.
Students are, however, encouraged to
share their difficulties with the
officers concerned, so that they may
receive advice.
All scholarships are given for one
academic year. Subsequently, every year
application for scholarship must be
made. In the case of those receiving
scholarships, they must maintain an
average grade of B— so that they may be
considered for scholarship in the
following year. All students who receive
full financial aid or scholarship shall
be expected to minister for, at least,
two years in a place that the
administrators recommend, after their
graduation.
The cost of education is fixed for one
year. However, if there is unusual price
rise in the market, the administrators
shall be forced to raise the boarding
fee.
Medical Expenses:
The College shall
provide minimal medical help. Generally,
all medical expenses should be borne by
the students. However, in medical
emergencies, the administrators shall
attempt to help them receive the best
medical attention available in or near Dehra Dun.
Schedule of Fees:
Students have the
option to pay the fees either annually,
at the beginning of each academic year,
or in two instalments, prior to the
beginning of each Semester. If all the
dues are not cleared, students shall not
be allowed to register for courses,
which is to be done at the beginning of
each Semester. Registration for courses
is mandatory for attending lectures.
Owing to unusual circumstances, if a
student is not able to make the payments
on the deadline, he or she may meet with
the Director of Business and Finances or
the Business Manager and make
alternative arrangement for the payment;
and he may recommend the student to
register for courses provisionally. In
such cases, after clearing the dues,
students must again approach the
Registrar and confirm the registration
of courses. If they do not confirm the
registration of courses, they shall not
be allowed to appear for the final
examination. Take note that it is the
responsibility of the students to
approach the Registrar. The office of
the Registrar will not send a reminder
to such students. The Accountant of the
College shall send two bills during an
academic year. If a student has not
cleared the bills of a particular
Semester, and has not made alternate
arrangements for the payment, he or she
shall be asked to discontinue studies in
the following Semester.
The tuition and fees listed herein cover
current academic year and are subject to
change in subsequent years without
notice.
